CHIEF RISK OFFICER

THE JOB:
We are looking for an experienced Chief Risk Officer to lead and oversee the full spectrum of risk management across the bank in Luxembourg. This role is critical to ensure the identification, assessment, and mitigation of potential risks, while aligning with our strategic objectives. Our Client is a global private banking group, offering private banking and asset management services. They serve clients in over 40 locations worldwide. Main responsibilities:
– Partnering with the business leadership team to ensure that the strategic vision of the business and plan is aligned and developed within the risk appetite.
– Aligning with the Group Risk function on Appetite, Operating model, Tools & controls.
– Co-operating with the key executive team and functions of the Bank (Finance, Operations, IT) to build a seamless and lean Operating model tested and verified through an appropriate Controls framework.
– Liaising with the local authorities and Regulators in order to ensure that the Bank is compliant and up to date within the regulatory ecosystem.
– Provides oversight on the Bank’s risk management activities through a robust risk framework for the business and its clients incorporating the 3 lines of defense model and a clearly defined Risk Appetite Statement.
– Provides risk direction through participation in a number of committees.
– Defends credit portfolio quality and ensures swift and proper reaction in case of doubtful files but also anticipates risks in newly introduced files.
– Escalates all identified risks to Audit and Risk Committee and subsequently to the Board of Directors in an autonomous manner of communication.
– Owns the process of building and reviewing the ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan documents and their interconnection to the 3-year business, capital and funding plan and Risk Appetite Statement for the Bank.

THE CANDIDATE PROFILE:
– At least 10 years of experience in a private bank in Luxembourg.
– Extensive experience in credit risk management within Private Banking, with a demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks. Proactively manage potential credit issues to safeguard portfolio quality.
– Proven experience in leading and managing a risk management team, including setting goals, providing direction, and ensuring the team meets regulatory and organizational objectives.
– Professional qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or Risk Management are required. Additional certifications or advanced degrees in these areas will be considered a plus.
– In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the financial industry, particularly those relevant to private banking.
– Expertise in anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) measures, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and implementing robust due diligence programs.
– Experience in developing and maintaining comprehensive risk management frameworks, including policies, procedures, and controls to identify, assess, and mitigate various types of risks, such as operational, market, and liquidity risks.
